Founded in 1996, Shanghai Bashu Logistics Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Shanghai and has a sister company in Chengdu. It has a total of 260 employees including its offices in Beijing, Chongqing, and Wuhan. The company started out by providing full truckload (FTL) transportation between Shanghai and Chengdu and Chongqing. It is a key player between Eastern China and Western China.
Bashu Logistics has 210 owned trucks. Sixty trucks as used for FTL transportation in the lanes among Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou. One hundred twenty trucks are used for distribution in city area. The other 30 trucks are bonded trucks for handling shipments needing transit customs clearance and transportation. Although FTL transportation is its primary business, Bashu Logistics can provide less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. All of its trucks are GPS equipped. The company has a routing guide and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) on drivers performance, including fuel cost savings.
Its transit times are based on the type of service provided. For example, there are three types of service with different transit times from Chengdu to Shanghai. The transit time for FTL express shipments is 28 hours. The transit time for FTL shipments for key accounts is 36 hours. The transit time for LTL shipments is 48 hours. Of course, the freight charges are different based on the service type.
Bashu Logistics has three warehouses totaling 22,000 square meters. One is in Chengdu (13,000 square meters), one is in Shanghai (5,000 square meters) and the other is in Chongqing (4,000 square meters). The warehouses are primarily for storage. Until now, Bashu Logistics didn’t provide value-added services to customers.
Bashu Logistics has good customer base. Foxconn is the key account. The bonded trucks are mainly for transit shipments between Shanghai and Chengdu for Foxconn’s imports and exports. Bashu Logistics does not have a customs brokerage license so it uses an agent for customs clearance. Changan Automation, Ford Motor, IKEA and Volvo are on its customer list. Bashu Logistics handles auto parts for Volvo from Chongqing, Shanghai, and Zhangjiakou to Chengdu. It also provides distribution services in Chengdu for Daphne, DKSH, H&M, and Sinotrans. Most of its business is from direct customers.
As a key player in the market, other logistics providers use Bashu Logistics. The cargo volume from other 3PLs is needed to balance space and save on cost. Bashu Logistics provides transportation to 3PLs in the lane between Shanghai, Chengdu and Chongqing.
As a specialist between Eastern China and Western China, Bashu Logistics has good performance. We can see it having even better performance if it can put more focus on sales efforts and expand its network to other cities.
