Chainalytics and Armstrong & Associates Form a Strategic Partnership

Relationship to Make Model-Based Benchmarking Available to 3PLs

Atlanta April 20, 2010 – Chainalytics LLC, a supply chain consulting firm focused on enabling fact-based supply chain decisions, and Armstrong & Associates, Inc., a supply chain market research and consulting firm specializing in 3PL market research, announced today a multi-year marketing and co-branding partnership to develop Model-Based Benchmarking (MBBC) services for third-party logistics providers (3PLs). 3PLs will now have access to a similar range of benchmarking capabilities that Chainalytics had previously offered primarily to shippers in Fortune 100 retail, CPG, and manufacturing industries. Armstrong & Associates will be Chainalytics’ sole 3PL strategic marketing partner.

The agreement encompasses a joint marketing and industry analysis methodology to target all domestic 3PLs with significant transportation spend in truckload and intermodal, including dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed equipment types. As part of the service, 3PLs will receive a wealth of transportation information, including 3PL specific surveys, benchmarking rate comparisons, peer fuel program and operational factor analyses, and online tools for batch rating.

3PLs will no longer have to guess at contracted rates for markets which they are unfamiliar. Using Chainalytics’ proven MBBC approach and methodologies, 3PL members will be able to perform engineering studies and respond to RFPs with a broader understanding of domestic freight markets and trends. Chainalytics and Armstrong & Associates will jointly develop industry surveys focused on specific 3PL issues with econometric benchmarking data to insure consortium membership confidentiality.

“Chainalytics is the market leader in transportation benchmarking with its MBBC member base reaching $15B in annual freight spend,” said Evan Armstrong, President of Armstrong & Associates. “A benchmarking service that expands 3PLs’ market knowledge of transportation rates has been needed for many years. We are excited about working together with Chainalytics to extend benchmarking capability to 3PLs”.

“Armstrong & Associates’ track record as the de-facto standard in 3PL industry analysis and consulting is a big reason why we made the decision to partner,” said Matthew Harding, Principal Chainalytics. “The depth of Armstrong & Associates relationships and the breadth of its customer base and analysis in the 3PL market provide a unique opportunity to expand transportation market intelligence.”

The first phase of this partnership will focus on domestic over-the-road purchased transportation, with subsequent phases extending to Less-Than-Truckload, Ocean Import/Export, and Heavy Air models.
